Chapter 11: The Meaning of It All

  1. its pretty cool how we pass on genes we didnt even kno we had. we can mutate into somthing we are not. We may think we are not related to someone because they dont look like us. But come to find out they are your cousin and you didnt even know it. Genes are extremely complex.

  2. Genes' complexity is part of what makes them so fascinating, I think. To understand our lineage completely would definitely take a lot more time and effort. I think it is very inspiring to see that we complex humans can grow and evolve and completely change and yet still have some sort of connection to the creatures around us.

  3. This chapter really brings everything to a close. Just like the rest of the book it includes so much information that could surprise you, as well as entertain you. Just like his example of a family tree using clowns. Even the cycle of feast and famine that plagued the hunter gatherer so long ago, and the idleness that we now experience is a cause for obesity. And yet, hearing that the longest account of uninterrupted hiccups lasted from 1920 to 1990 was shocking to me. The way Shubin relates and links everything together is a captivating thing.
